Monthly Wrap Up – JULY

Hello lovelies. I hope you all had a fantastic July and had plenty of adventures (both inside and outside the pages of a book). I’ve seen quite a few Monthly Wrap-Ups done in this style so I thought we would give this a go!

July was the second month of Winter for us down here in New Zealand, and boy did the temperature let us know it! It was a month full of cold and rainy days of reading, movie marathons, fundraising and beautiful flowers.

This month I read a total of 5 books, which is a pretty great number for me! It can be hard to get a lot of reading in when you are busy chasing a 2 year old around the place. Haha. Admittedly they weren’t very long books, but oh well! If I keep this up for the rest of the year I will definitely read more than my Good Reads goal. I may even be able to up my goal a little bit.

Books read in July:
Percy Jackson & the Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan
And We’re Off – Dana Shwartz
Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #2) by Maggie Stiefvater
Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

I enjoyed all of them, but my favourites were definitely The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. I am such a huge fan of Stiefvaters work. Her ability to describe the surroundings is so wonderful, that I feel as though I am there. She is also fantastic at writing boys that were destined for my Book Boyfriends list. You can read my review on the series HERE.

Thinking back, I believe that I only purchased one book this month! A second hand copy of The Husbands Secret by Liane Moriarty. Honestly, I have never read any of her books, but I did really love the TV Series of Big Little Lies. Since so many people have said her books are even better, I figured I had better pick some of them up and find out for myself. I am very excited to give this one a try!

After reading The Wolves of Mercy Falls I was in such a Wolf kind of mood that I decided to rewatch Teen Wolf… again. I honestly never get sick of it, probably because of Dylan O’Brien if I am being honest. He is simply incredible in Season 3B!

It was also recently announced that Holland Roland will be attending this years Armageddon (a pop culture convention down here in NZ), so it’s been exciting rewatching knowing that we will be meeting her in the near future. And of course writing about it here!

Season 6B started earlier this week but I just got round to watching the first episode last night. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to finish my rewatch first, but then I just couldn’t wait that long. I’ll be posting a reaction post very very soon so keep your eyes out for that!

This month we started our massive Movie Challenge, so we have watched a fair amount this month! So far we have watched 8 movies for the challenge, which means just two more movies until I will be posting our first update!

Other than movies for our challenge, we also saw 2 movies at the Cinema this month. Baby Driver and Spider-man: Homecoming. Both were totally worth seeing.

Spider-man was a lot of fun, and I’d say it is probably my favourite of the three adaptations (although I still hold a special place in my heart for Andrew Garfield).

Baby Driver was absolutely phenomenal. I highly recommend that everyone go and see it, right now! I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up seeing it again while it is still in the cinema.

The Baby Driver soundtrack has been playing on repeat in our house. Such a fun soundtrack, and every time I listen to it I just want to go and see the movie again.

I have also been listening to a lot of older tracks from the 70’s and 80’s, and the Teen Wolf soundtracks which are great for working out to! You can check out more of what I’ve been listening too, and my playlists over at the Book & Bloom spotify HERE

I had a great time blogging this month. Hearing from you all on my posts is so amazing, and I got to do a few things I had been planning for a little while. So here is a round up of this months blog posts.

And here are some posts by other bloggers that I really enjoyed this month!

This month we had a few bunches of beautiful Tulips in our home. The general meaning of the Tulip is ‘Perfect Love’, however in Victorian times they were often associated with ‘Charity’.

Different coloured Tulips also carry different meanings. We had both Yellow and Pink Tulips this month. Yellow Tulips mean cheerful thoughts and sunshine, and Pink Tulips mean happiness and confidence. Both perfect for brightening up our home during this cold winter month.

I have some really exciting things planned for the blog, and hopefully I will be able to start rolling some of them out in August! Plenty more reviews, movie challenge updates, top ten tuesdays and hopefully a few more playlists. More posts on Middle Grade and Childrens books, TV Show reaction posts, and possibly a few posts involving food… I am not going to say too much mor, but I am really really hoping you love what I have planned.

I am very excited to show you all what I have in store!

How was your July? What did you get up to?

I felt the same way about the new Spider-man movie. I really liked Andrew Garfield as Spider-man, so I definitely didn’t expect to like Tom Holland as much as I did after I watched the new one. It was so great!! I love the John Hughes feel it had to it.

Also, thanks so much for the shout out! 🙂

Andrew Garfield is a wonderful human, but I think having a younger feel (and yes definitely a John Hughes vibe) to it made it much more enjoyable.

      And any time 😉

Thank you for the lovely mention, I’m glad you liked the poem as much as I did!

And I love your “flower of the month” feature – those tulips are gorgeous!

My dad is actually a Kiwi, from Te Aroha in the North Island, and I’ve still got family there, mostly in Waihi and in Auckland. 🙂

I really enjoy popping over to your blog each week to see what poem you have chosen. I love poetry, and I really want to feature it more on the blog! And thank you! Flowers are a passion of mine so i try and fit them in the blog where I can!

That is so cool that your Dad is a Kiwi! Te Aroha is a gorgeous little place. I’m from a little coastal town in the very North of Auckland.

I love your wrap up style! I also watched Spider-Man Homecoming and absolutely loved it. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did. I’ve never seen Teen Wolf but I have heard that show is really good!

I wasn’t expecting to love it that much either, as I adore Andrew Garfield. But they hit it out of the park!

Teen Wolf is great! The first season is definitely a little cheesy but as the show progresses it really picks up. It helps that my favourite actor is in the show too 🙂
